Gateway treatments can reduce casualty crashes by up to 35%.

Gateway treatments (also referred to as entry treatments or thresholds) are used to delineate the transitions from higher speed to lower speed environments. This is achieved through the use of speed signs, coloured pavements and/or different pavement types (even raised pavements in some cases). Gateways should be used along a route, marking the transition point between two different road environments.
