In Victoria, bridge approach barriers must be designed in accordance with BTN001 v1.1 – 2018 Bridge Traffic Barriers (together with AS5100:2017 for the appropriate performance level). The bridge approach barrier, its connections and supporting systems should all be designed to progressively strengthen the system to limit the chance of pocketing and to protect the structure in the event of a collision. With continuous steel railings, splices should be provided by full penetration butt welds.
