Impact absorbing vs Slip-base poles

  • Impact absorbing poles should be used in areas where there is risk of a dislodged pole secondary impact (narrow medians, near railway tracks, near bridges, limited clearance to powerlines), where vehicle speeds are less than 80km/h and pedestrian activity is expected.
  •  Slip-base poles should be used in high-speed areas, in medians 2m or greater in width, where there is adequate clearance to overhead lines and where pedestrian activity is low.
