Roundabouts reduce casualty crashes by around 75%, but conventional traffic signals only reduce casualty crashes by around 45%.
It is quite common for roundabouts to be replaced with traffic signals when the opposing movements become too great.
Before you remove a roundabout, have you considered signalising (metering) it? Signalised roundabouts significantly improve the capacity of the roundabout and retain all (and sometimes more) of the safety benefits.
Signalised/metered roundabouts can also provide a nice crossing facility for pedestrians and cyclists.
