The minimum allowable curve radius for wire rope safety barriers in most jurisdictions is 200m (or the supplier’s minimum recommended radius – whichever is greater). However, some jurisdictions allow a 100m radius curve to be used in specific situations (e.g., in Victoria for Stopping Refuge Bay Layouts – see snip of RDN 06-02 below). 

When a barrier is placed on a curve, designers should consider its effect on the system’s deflection. The barrier will deflect less on the concave side and more on the convex side.
