We’ve been designing, trialling, and implementing various Vehicle Activated Signs for quite some time now (photo below of some installations back in 2007 in Victoria). With advancing technology, we keep finding even more applications for these signs, including:
- Curve warning signs
- Intersection warning signs
- Speed roundel signs
- Side Road Activated Speeds
Each application can be tailored to specific needs, such as alerting the priority road user, side road user, or both.
A 2014 study by Makwasha and Turner showed significant speed reductions:
Mean speed reductions:
- 3% for curve warning signs
- 3.6% for intersection warning signs
- 4% for speed roundel signs
85th percentile speed reductions:
- 6.4% for curve warning signs
- 5.7% for intersection warning signs
- 5.4% for speed roundel signs
These findings highlight the impact Vehicle Activated Signs can have in promoting safer driving speeds.
