Pedestrian protection at signalised intersections
Pedestrian protection gives pedestrians a head start to begin crossing before a vehicle gets a green light to proceed. In NSW, more than 500 intersections are being upgraded to include this protection and all new traffic signals are required to have this feature. The installation of pedestrian protection phases can reduce pedestrian crashes by 30% (Le and Eveleigh 2015).
