Our recent evaluation for Yarra City Council’s Wombat Crossing (raised pedestrian crossing) on Gipps Street, Abbotsford further solidifies the awesomeness of Wombat Crossings.
The evaluation was performed to understand if pedestrian’s perception of safety had increased with the change from a pedestrian crossing (zebra crossing) to a Wombat Crossing. Additionally, the evaluation sought to determine if vehicle travel speeds decreased due to the installation of the Wombat Crossing.
The survey of pedestrians found that the perception of safety for both day and nighttime had indeed improved due to the new Wombat Crossing. And the average vehicle travel speed had decreased by 8.3% (eastbound) and 6.7% (westbound).
