In Australia and the US, passenger vehicle rollovers constitute only 2-3% of all crashes but contribute to 30% of crash fatalities. SUVs and four-wheel drive vehicles are frequently involved in rollover crashes due to their high centre of gravity. Policy decisions associated with vehicle safety must take this into account and ensure electronic stability control AND side airbags designed to stay deployed during the full duration of a rollover crash are mandated.
