Across Australia and New Zealand there are several crash coding systems used. They each provide a unique code for each crash type. These are useful for identifying crash patterns, emerging trends and quickly describing a crash scenario.

Be careful to make sure you’re using the correct coding system as the codes are not directly transferrable.

Queensland – Definition for Coding Accidents (DCA)
NSW & NT – Road User Movement (RUM)
Victoria, SA & Tasmania – Definition for Classifying Accidents (DCA) (note: slightly different to Qld)
New Zealand – Vehicle Movement Codes
WA – Road User Movement (RUM) (note: different to NSW)
