Standards Australia has published the revision of AS 1742:2021, Part 1 General Introduction and Index of Signs. It contains a list of all road signs approved for use in Australia, including references to where more information can be found for each sign. The standard also has information on the basic elements of signs including shape, size, colour, lettering and symbols. AS 1742.1:2021 contains all new road signs that have recently been approved for use, including multi-message signs that are used at roadwork sites.
This Standard is managed by the Standards Australia committee, MS-012 which includes representatives from industry, including State road jurisdictions. The committee is chaired by Safe System Solutions Pty Ltd Traffic Lead, Thuan Nguyen, and the revision led by the Victoria Department of Transport representative, Frank Costa, with contributions and support from the Working Group members representing Transport for NSW, SA Department of Infrastructure and Transport, Main Roads Western Australia and Department of Transport and Main Roads. Standards Australia Project Manager was Numani Weerasurija.
