About Kenn
Kenn is a Registered Professional Engineer, accredited Senior Road Safety Auditor, transport planner, trainer and assessor. He has over 20 years’ experience in road safety engineering, planning, policy and strategy development. Kenn is one of Australia’s most active Safe System practitioners and trainers, and has delivered many diverse projects, including: safety strategies for local and state government; business cases for TAC; Road Safety Audits and Safe System Assessments. Kenn was co-lead for the 2020 update to the Austroads Guide to Road Safety series.
About Max
Max is a specialist in active transport with a wealth of hands-on road safety engineering experience. Max is a keen commuter and recreational cyclist and keeps up to date with best practice for designing and delivering cycling infrastructure. Max also delivers Cycling Infrastructure Training Courses aimed at sharpening practitioners’ skills in identifying risks and providing solutions for cyclist safety.
About Sam
Sam is a Chartered Professional Road Safety Engineer in Safe System Solutions’ New Zealand office. Sam has over 15 years’ experience in road safety and transport engineering and has previously led a team of over 25 road safety professionals. Sam was part of the team that won the 2022 National Award for Road Safety and currently works with numerous road controlling authorities to deliver safe system outcomes.
About Paul
Paul is a certified Registered Professional Engineer with over 19 years of experience in traffic analysis, road planning and design, and road safety.
Paul has successfully completed projects for state, local and private clients.
Paul is an experienced Safe System Assessor, expert intersection network modeler and network planner. He has worked on some of Queensland’s most complex road projects in both the urban and rural environment.
Before joining Safe System Solutions Pty Ltd, Paul held a variety of senior roles in consultancies and on projects for state and local governments.
About Thuan
Thuan is a Traffic Engineer and accredited Senior Road Safety Auditor with 20 years of experience in Road Safety and Traffic Engineering. Thuan has worked in both Local and State Governments where he was involved in and led the development of policies, updating Austroads Guides and Australian Standards. He is currently Chair of the Australian Standards committee for Traffic Control Devices, and Transport lecturer at Swinburne University. Thuan has worked as an expert witness and led our Signs and Lines and Road Safety Audit workshops.
About Tana
Tana has over 15 years’ experience as a researcher, project manager, consultant and trainer. He has authored several peer reviewed papers on vehicle safety and has conducted evaluations of road safety treatments such as shared paths, protected roundabouts and audio tactile line marking. Tana managed the update to Austroads Guide to Road Safety Update and Restructure, Austroads Practical Approaches for Managing Regional Road Safety Priorities and Austroads Learner Approved Motorcycle Scheme Update projects. His specialty areas are vehicle safety, motorcycle safety, capacity building domestically and internationally, and strategy development.
About Kathy
Kathy is a training professional with over 20 years of instructional design experience covering all training channels, including face-to-face, online, distance learning and webinars. She has managed all aspects of training from concept development through marketing and enrolment to content design and delivery. This includes contract and stakeholder management with clients and customers across Australasia, Asia and North America.
Kathy holds a Bachelor of Education (Secondary & Adult) and a Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment.
About Louise
Louise is a General Manager with over 20 years experience in the Not For Profit, Public and Private sectors, with a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management. She brings experience in developing and implementing strategy and budgets, along with process improvement initiatives. Louise also has responsibility for operational planning, policy and quality management oversight and risk management. Louise relocated from Wales in 2012.
About Catherine
Catherine is a Senior Transport Planner with a Diploma of Civil and Structural Engineering. Whilst working in Local Government for six years, Catherine worked in a multidisciplinary environment to deliver road improvement and transport infrastructure programs. Catherine worked in private consulting for five years across WA and Victoria coordinating and delivering planning and traffic engineering services for major State projects. Catherine is a Senior Road Safety Auditor and has audited urban and rural projects across Australia.
About Johan
Johan Strandroth originates from Sweden where he helped develop the analytical framework and strategy for implementation of Vision Zero. He has worked as the Safe System lead in VicRoads and as Project Director at Transport for Victoria, overseeing the development of Victoria’s next Road Safety Strategy. Johan has a background as a civil engineer and holds a Masters in injury prevention and a PhD in Machine and Vehicle Systems.
About Jamie
Jamie is a civil engineer with 20 years’ experience in traffic engineering, road design and road safety. Previously, Jamie was Technical Lead Traffic Engineering & Design at VicRoads, where he worked for 11 years. His areas of expertise include Safe System engineering, road safety barriers, traffic analysis and CADD. He is a highly active Senior Road Safety Auditor and a VicRoads Recommended Safe System Assessor. Jamie’s extensive technical knowledge has contributed to a range of VicRoads and Austroads guidelines.
About Domenic
Domenic is a Civil Engineer and accredited Senior Road Safety Auditor with over 25 years’ experience in VicRoads and the private sector in construction and consulting. Domenic’s responsibilities have covered many aspects of roads management, including development, delivery, construction, maintenance, traffic management, road safety and information services. He contributed to drafting the Australian Standard for Traffic Control Devices and co-authored the Traffic Network chapter of Monash University’s Traffic Engineering and Management textbook.
About Nicole
Nicole is a chartered engineer and Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland with 19 years in traffic analysis, road planning, design, and safety. With a decade as a Senior Road Safety Auditor, she has experience in both private sector and government roles, including the Department of Transport and Main Roads (Qld). She has led traffic impact & heavy vehicle assessments, successfully delivered submissions for road safety grants, and conducted over 50 road safety audits throughout Queensland.
About David
David is a road safety engineer with extensive experience with VicRoads / Department of Transport and as a consultant. His expertise covers a board range of activities including the investigation of blackspots, the development of safety countermeasures, development of standards, preparation of technical and policy documents, and provision of specialist advice. David has worked on several international projects, is an accredited Senior Road Safety Auditor and a Victorian Department of Transport recommended Safe System Assessor.
About Wendy
Wendy is a Chartered Professional Engineer with over 17 years of experience specialising in road safety, traffic engineering, geometric design and pavement engineering. She has successfully managed and delivered transportation projects at all stages throughout New Zealand. Additionally, she is experienced in Project Management, Design Management, AutoCAD, Civil 3D and various Autodesk software including Infraworks.
About Bob
Bob is a Project Development Specialist with a focus on road design. He is familiar with Bentley Microstation software and is well versed in all aspects of road design with a high level of expertise in Vicroads, Austroads and relevant Australian Standards and guidelines. Bob has worked in a wide variety of road project areas that include traffic signals, intersection remodels, safety barrier installations, roundabouts and bridge improvements in a rural and urban context.
About Daniel
Daniel is a traffic engineer and accredited Senior Road Safety Auditor with 8 years of experience. He has been involved in road safety projects, Safe System Assessments, GIS mapping and active transport projects. He has also served on the executive board of ITE, Australia and New Zealand Section (ITE-ANZ) for over 5 years. He regularly contributes to the industry through seminars, career days and industry events.
Daniel was awarded the ITE-ANZ Young Professional Award in 2020.
About Nathan
Nathan is a Civil Engineer and accredited Road Safety Auditor. At Monash University Nathan conducted research with the Accident Research Centre into road user behaviour and driver response to road signage. He has been a team member involved in road safety audits, motorcycle route safety assessments and Safe System Assessments. He has also conducted desk studies that have informed several Austroads research reports and assisted in the development of Road Safety Strategies for local councils.
About Julian
Julian is a Civil Engineer with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering and Bachelor of Commerce from Monash University. Julian is an accredited Road Safety Auditor and has been involved in audits for Local Governments and the DoT. He has worked with the DoTs Eastern Region responding to ETS enquiries and helped develop projects for the Great Alpine Road and Snowy Mountain Highway.
About Johann
Johann is a specialist Traffic and Transport Engineer with a talent for technology. He has 20 years’ experience in various traffic/transport and technology roles, spanning local and state government, operations, research, consulting and public policy. As well as his contribution to the deployment of Connected and Automated Vehicles in Australia, his past roles include Senior Roads and Traffic Engineer at RACV and Head of Innovation and Technology at ComfortDelGro. In 2016 Johann won the Monash Business School Prize for Managing Innovation.
About Lyndal
Lyndal is an office manager with over 20 years of experience in both the public and private sector and a Cert IV in Business Administration. Her exceptional multi-tasking abilities mean that she currently manages all aspects of office administration, including accounts and payroll, staff resources, logistics and fleet management, accommodation and support systems, databases and record keeping. Lyndal has responsibility for the company Head Office and satellite offices.
About Emma
Emma is a training and events professional with over 17 years’ experience in the not-for-profit and corporate sectors, with strong skills in events management, operational training delivery and stakeholder engagement. Emma has a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Teaching (Primary and Secondary) and holds a TAE40116 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
About Keziah
Keziah has worked within the transportation sector for over 20 years. Originally from the UK, she spent 12 years as Airline Cabin Crew and then took a role as an On-Road Traffic Officer with National Highways where her career progressed into an administrative coordinator role supporting a transformation project to enhance the way England’s motorways and major A-roads are maintained, improved and operated. Keziah relocated to Australia in 2022.
About Tom
Tom is an international expert on environmental risk, including climate variability, climate change, greenhouse gas and air quality issues and particularly their application to transport and fuels.
He has had a long and distinguished scientific and consulting career that included numerous scientific honours and awards including the Adam Hilger Prize, the CSIRO Chairman’s medal, and a special certificate of appreciation from the IPCC upon their award of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. In 2022 he was awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to science.
About Duncan
Duncan has been involved in road safety for more than 20 years in the areas of policy, licensing, training and auditing. He has over 25 years of continuous motorcycle riding experience and is a qualified road safety auditor. He contributed to the Transport for New South Wales rider training scheme, the national Learner-Approved Motorcycles (LAMs) scheme, rewrote the NSW Motorcycle Riders’ Handbook and many other motorcycle safety programs around Australia. He is also a rider instructor and a subject matter expert on motorcycle safety.
About Tony
Tony worked with VicRoads / DoT for thirty-nine years. Tony specialised in road maintenance & road construction. Before accepting an early retirement package, he was Program Manager – Maintenance across regional Victoria.
On three occasions Tony worked overseas (Philippines, Dubai and Indonesia) with VicRoads International delivering best practice documentation for traffic management at roadworks.
Tony is a specialist trainer delivering the Austroads Safety Hardware Training Accreditation Scheme (ASHTAS) Operative training.
About Chris
Chris Davis is an active road safety practitioner, having held roles in Mildura over the past 20 years as Chairman of Community RoadSafe Mildura and from 2001 within Mildura Rural City Council’s engineering team as Road Safety Officer and Design Manager.
Chris specialises in practical solutions for local governments, including speed and speeding, run off the road crashes and treatments, and the benefits of Public Breath testing machines in pubs and clubs. In 2016 Chris and the RoadSafe team won the TAC Safer Drivers state award for its texting and enforcement campaign, and in 2020 he won the 3M Diamond Road Safety Award for the development, design and delivery of Mildura’s compact implant roundabout.
About Kanchana
Kanch has over 15 years Civil Engineering experience, mainly in Melbourne local government. He is an experienced project manager for capital works programs, covering procurement, contract management and construction supervision. He has led the design of multiple civil infrastructure projects and has been instrumental in developing many creative and buildable infrastructure solutions. In 2016 he received the IPWEA Victoria Engineer of the Year award.
About Marisa
Marisa is a training professional with a background in training coordination and RTO compliance. She has extensive experience in delivering successful training programs and accredited courses by managing training enrolment and certification processes, course programming and resourcing, and online event coordination.
About Loretta
Loretta has over 10 years’ experience in training and development in a variety of sectors. After finishing her Batchelor of Business in Tourism, Loretta advanced into a successful corporate training career and managed end-to-end training, from concept to facilitation. Throughout her history, Loretta expanded her skills in different fields, from teaching English in France to managing small business in the Northern Rivers of NSW. In her most recent role in the not-for-profit sector, Loretta coordinated an assortment of training programs, from enrolment to evaluation, which gave her a great sense of fulfilment. Loretta has energy and passion in the training space and loves providing support, and project co-ordination!
About Sam
Sam comes from a science/laboratory based background and moved into administration 6 years ago, initially in the not-for-profit sector, where she gained experience in general office administration, event coordination and logical support for other run services. Most recently she was employed with an independent health consulting business in the role of Client Services and Operations Lead where she further developed her administrative skills and assisted with literature reviews and data analysis.
About Aidan
Aidan has over 5 years of experience in road safety and transport engineering delivering for Waka Kotahi, Auckland Transport, and other local councils. He is experienced in safe system audits, speed management, and crash reduction studies. Most notably, he has worked on the Speed and Infrastructure Programme, Transport Choices Programme, and Auckland’s Speed Management Programme.

About Amy
Amy specialises in understanding road user behaviour and human factors across the Safe System, applying evidence, insights and systems thinking to the design and delivery of road safety strategy, policy and interventions. Amy is passionate about taking a holistic approach to understanding and addressing the underlying reasons for behaviour and designing for all road users to achieve safe and equitable outcomes.
Amy has 20 years of behavioural science research, leadership and advisory experience, with a significant focus in transport and road safety. She worked in Australia for 10 years before coming back to NZ in 2018, working in roles across academia and government. She has a PhD and wealth of experience in risk-based responsive regulation and the role of good practice regulation to support safety and wider outcomes. Prior to joining Safe System Solutions, Amy was the Principal Advisor – Road User Choices at Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency for five years. She provided thought leadership and technical advice across Road to Zero and the Waka Kotahi Regulatory Strategy, Tū ake, Tū māia.
About Natasha
Natasha is a Civil Engineer in training, currently completing her Bachelor of Civil Engineering at Swinburne University. As an accredited Road Safety Auditor, she has contributed to various road safety audits, walkability audits, motorcycle route safety assessments, and the development of road safety strategies for local governments. Natasha has a strong passion for active transport and recently led a study evaluating walkability across Melbourne’s Local Government Areas, analysing the impact of urban planning on active transport accessibility.
