Safe System Solutions Pty Ltd was engaged to examine, pre- and postimplementation, whether the shared zone had resulted in the aim of the Council being achieved. The aim was to encourage more pedestrians and bicyclists into the area and to slow down vehicular traffic. Quantitative and qualitative analyses were undertaken to evaluate the differences in the vehicle volume, vehicle speed, cyclist volume and pedestrian volume between the pre- and post – construction of the Shared Zone. The analysis indicated that the desired results were highly likely to have been achieved.
