eBikes are having a moment right now.
We keep getting sent videos of some of the riding behaviour… and here’s another one below. (Thankfully the incident at the end of the video appears to be minor)
At the same time, there’s a growing conversation about age limits, licensing, and speed caps, with the latest discussion out of Queensland including things like a minimum age of 16, requiring a learner licence, and lower speed limits in certain environments. Unsurprisingly, it’s sparked some pretty strong reactions.
There’s a real tension sitting underneath all of this.
Access vs safety | Freedom vs control | Opportunity vs risk.
Our Principal Engineer Kenn Beer put up a post on this recently that drew a lot of comments and different perspectives, which probably tells you everything you need to know about where this is at. (see Kenn’s post here)
People care and they have strong views. But as with most things in road safety, it’s rarely as simple as picking a side.
Keen to hear how others are seeing this play out.
