The real culprit? Lane drift-off.
Many drivers drift off to the left, often guided by the road crossfall, and then overcorrect when they realise they’re on the shoulder. This overcorrection frequently results in crossing the centreline and a head-on collision.
Others drift straight into the oncoming lane, with devastating outcomes.
There are many tools in the road safety toolbox to reduce the risk of head-on crashes, but nothing is more effective than a central barrier system.
