Keeping speeds down and minimising rat-running through residential areas is not only important for safety but also enhances amenity, encourages active transport, and reduces noise.
Developing an LATM plan requires careful analysis of the area, including vehicle composition, strategic objectives, and pedestrian/cyclist origins, destinations, and desire lines. It’s also essential to consider the reality of funding availability, establish clear prioritisation, and optimise the recommended treatments. Most importantly, LATM treatments must align with Safe System principles, ensuring that human tolerance to crash forces remains a central design criteria.
