Safe System Solutions Pty Ltd conducted an evaluation of road user behaviour and their perceptions of safety at the Moray Street protected roundabout. Our evaluation found increased usage by both pedestrians and cyclists, large increases in perceived safety for both road user groups and generally good compliance from all road users.
Through our analysis we found some incidences of vehicles propping on the pedestrian and cyclist crossing points, but there were only minor safety concerns associated with this behaviour.
Overall, this roundabout transformation is an outstanding success story and creates a wonderful blueprint for mass deployment.
