Safe System Solutions Pty Ltd was engaged by VicRoads Metro North West to undertake strategic planning for the arterial network based on sound population, land use, growth and strategic aspiration data. The project also included significant stakeholder consultation across the region with all local government authorities and industry.

The outputs were three documents – the Metro North West Transport Strategy and sub reports on cycling and walking (and needs under the Disability and Discrimination Act). The reports have been used as a sound basis for large strategic planning decisions in the region which is home to over 2 million people, the Port of Melbourne, Melbourne Airport and Australia’s fastest growing municipality. The strategies have been used as exemplars of best practice regional strategies interlinking with national, state and local strategies.
