One thousand people are now trained and licensed to work with road safety barriers through the Austroads Safety Hardware Training and Accreditation Scheme (ASHTAS) operative course delivered by Safe System Solutions.

Since July 2023, Safe System Solutions has delivered over 70 face-to-face and online courses to participants in Victoria, ACT, New South Wales and Queensland.

Yesterday’s training with RPM Hire marked 1,000 participants licensed through Safe System Solutions.

“Road safety barriers are lifesaving – but must be designed and installed correctly to provide maximum protection to road users,” Safe System Solutions specialist trainer Tony Bull said.

“The ASHTAS operative course ensures everyone involved in the installation and maintenance of barriers has the required knowledge and skills.

“We’re proud that 1,000 people are now trained through Safe System Solutions and are playing a key role in ensuring our roads are safer by way of their future barrier management and helping to reduce deaths and serious injuries.”

Safe Systems Solutions has enhanced the standard operative course by also providing participants with an understanding of barrier selection, performance requirements, design and installation issues, and sharing case studies.

One recent participant stated: “The training session was exceptionally well-planned and executed, providing a wealth of valuable information.”

Jurisdictions are starting to include a clause in contracts that requires consultants and contractors to be ASHTAS licensed – it is currently mandated in NSW, QLD, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia.

Safe System Solutions online ASHTAS operative courses sell out quickly – but more are being made available. The next face-to-face courses kick off in August in Melbourne, Hobart, Brisbane and Sydney in Australia and in Hamilton, Wellington and Auckland in New Zealand.
