There’s a trainer/facilitator trick I keep coming back to.
Don’t do the recap. Get the participants to do it.
This week on our Safe System Solutions Road Safety Audit course in Queensland, I was super pleased with the outcome.
Instead of me summarising the previous day, I just asked each person to mention one thing that stuck. They didn’t just list a few high-level ideas. They were pulling out key Road Safety Audit concepts and getting right into the detail of the RSA process.
That’s the bit I like. You can see the shift happening. Not just remembering content. Starting to see the network differently.
And I got one of my favourite bits of feedback again:
“Kenn, you’ve ruined my commute. All I can do now is critically analyse infrastructure for risk.”
