Kenngineering Notes: Sink or Float hits Washington DC
Feb 19, 2026
Final day of Program Zero, and in between the trauma modelling, counterfactual analysis, case-by-case reviews and strategic response scenarios, we introduced some other very serious science.
Enter: Sink or Float.
Random objects from my hotel room. A Johns Hopkins drink bottle filled with water.
Simple question:
Do they sink? Or do they float?
Specific gravity – it’s not usually part of our road safety analysis, but it was important today because the winner takes home a pineapple. Obviously.
A brilliant week here in Washington DC with an outstanding group from across the USA, South America, Canada, Africa and the Middle East. Evidence-based Safe System/Vision Zero planning, in-depth discussion, robust debate, and a good dose of post-lunch games to keep the energy levels up.

Big thanks to the team at Johns Hopkins International Injury Research Unit and my Lösningar colleagues Jessica T. and Johan Strandroth for another cracking Program Zero.
This is a serious topic. The participants are seriously smart people.
But we are still allowed to have some fun.
