Well played Auckland Transport on the new Practice Note for sight distance at zebra crossings. Short, clear, and addresses some issues in how parts of the industry calculate sight distance at pedestrian priority crossings.

Great to see the introduction of Priority Crossing Sight Distance (PCSD), which correctly does not factor in pedestrian crossing time or distance because pedestrians have priority. The inclusion of realistic deceleration after reaction time where speed management features exist is also a strong step forward, along with the clear clarification that PCSD is measured to the hold line (a feature that is standard at most crossings in New Zealand). Also useful is the clarification that pedestrian setback can be reduced to 0.75m (from the 1.6m) under Extended Design Domain where site constraints exist.

Great to see people rolling up there sleeves and getting into the details of these important issues.
