Dr Amy Williamson, Safe System Solutions Technical Lead – Safe People, has received a prestigious Austroads Achievement Award for leadership in road safety.
The award recognises Amy’s exceptional leadership as the inaugural chair of the Australian and New Zealand Safe People Technical Reference Group.
“Austroads is successful, in large part, because of the intellect, professionalism and enthusiasm of people in Australia and New Zealand’s roads and transport agencies. One of these people is Dr Amy Williamson,” said Austroads Chief Executive, Geoff Allan.
“The award is a little recognition for Amy’s countless hours and many years of dedication to keep people at the centre road safety, ensuring the system is designed to always consider human behaviour.”
Amy said she was delighted and grateful to receive the award, which was presented at the New Zealand Transport Agency office in Wellington, New Zealand, last week.
“I feel very privileged to work and continue to learn among such a dedicated and supportive community of practitioners across NZ, Australia and beyond,” she said.
“I’m looking forward to the year ahead to continue our ongoing efforts to achieve our vision and road safety (and wider) outcomes.”
Amy has 20 years of behavioural science research, leadership and advisory experience, with a significant focus in transport and road safety. She worked in Australia for 10 years before coming back to NZ in 2018, working in roles across academia and government.
She has a PhD and wealth of experience in risk-based responsive regulation and the role of good practice regulation to support safety and wider outcomes.
Amy is Safe System Solutions’ technical lead in applying behavioural science and human factors to the design and delivery of Safe System strategy and intervention – with a focus on taking a systems approach to both encouraging safe behaviour and designing for human error.
Safe System Solutions Principal Engineer, Kenn Beer, commended Amy on her well-deserved award recognition.
“Amy is highly regarded and respected in the road safety field, with a wealth of experience in behavioural science and regulatory practice research, policy and leadership,” Kenn said.
“From all of us at Safe System Solutions, congratulations Amy on your award – we are proud to have you as part of our team!”
