…and the winner is… road safety in Aotearoa New Zealand.
Last night Safe System Solutions, in partnership with NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi, won the Trafinz National Road Safety Leadership Award.
The award recognised our national rollout of technical training that has now supported nearly 700 engineers, road designers, and transport planners across New Zealand to apply Safe System principles in their everyday work.
This kind of impact only happens through the vision and persistence of some amazing people. So special recognition to the many people who drove this work forward: Jessica Rattray, Fabian Marsh, Maria Drinkwater, Kathy (Kathleen) Graham, Juliet Bartels, Lex Stokes, PMP, Jeffrey Scoringe and Lee Wright (just to name a few).
And a huge acknowledgement to the Safe System Solutions training team, led by Kathy Doukouris (with support from Emma Arrow, Loretta Ierardo, Marisa Garisto and Samantha Zeps), who rolled up the sleeves to make it all happen. And to our technical practitioners that helped shape the content: Sam Pasley (SSS NZ Lead), Max McCardel, Thuan Nguyen, Jamie Robertson… and the list goes on.
Building capability inside the transport industry is one of the most powerful and sustainable ways we can accelerate progress toward safe roads and streets.
A big thank you to everyone who participated in the training and continues to apply Safe System thinking in practice. The real reward is seeing the on-ground Safe System solutions by practitioners that have been through the training.
(Not my usual dinner attire. It was a transport-themed dress-up awards night)
